The splendid architectonic complex of the 16th century –which
comprises the Old Jesuit School, the Church of Saint Nicholas,
a scope of Roman remains, a winery, an underground river, and
other adjacent buildings– is currently in state of ruin. Being a his-
torical symbol of education, research and progress, it deserves
better luck. Thus, the Fundación Lumbreras-Colección Adrastus
is devoted to the rescue of this heritage site and transform it into
a cultural center that reflects the history and energy of this beauti-
ful region.
With the help of curator Patrick Charpenel, Javier Lumbreras –a
native of Arévalo– has built a cultural heritage that reveals the
past, the present and the future of our society. This is why he
chose the Jesuit School of Arévalo as the home for this art col-
lection and the place of settlement for an experimental museum
project.
