ARTIST SPOTLIGHT- ERA By Lady Spitfire( Cont.)
Q) Being in a band can be a bit like an out of body experience, how do you stay grounded?
A) We are really just a group of regular guys with day jobs and families, and our drive to write and create music in itself is one of the things that keeps us grounded. We do not put ourselves up on a pedestal by any means when it comes to working with other bands or especially engaging and connecting with our fans. Humility is what it’ s all about.
Q) What are you listening to lately?
A) Lately, anything in the range from bands like Mastodon, Red Fang, and Ghost, to Pestilence, Gorguts, and Gojira. And of course the classics.
Q) What image do you think your music conveys?
A) We don’ t really think about things like that to be honest. We write what makes us feel good, and hopefully our fans and fans of metal music dig it and can connect with it. We want it to hit and resonate with them the same it does with us.
Q) Are you looking for an independent label deal or major? Why?
A) Obviously, a major label deal would be the ticket. But realistically, with the state of the industry, a distribution deal would be ideal. Be it a major or independent, something to aid us in getting our music out there in the ears of more people and at the same time keeping artistic control and all that in our hands.
Q) Describe your sound. What makes you unique or different?
A) When writing, we try to avoid the“ formulas” that make a lot of groups in the metal genre sound the same. Let’ s be honest, when speaking of some of the greats before us, it can be difficult to consider things“ ground breaking” in this day and age. We certainly feel like we carry our own brand though in the vast numbers of groups currently operating.
Q) If you could give one piece of advice to other Indie groups, what would that be?
A) Do what you want. Stay true to yourself, your roots, and the music you create. Fuck everyone else.
