ARTIST SPOTLIGHT— SABRINA SIGNS
Sabrina Signs is not your ordinary 18 year old. Smart, grounded and wise, she rose from hardship and landed in a studio equipped with her voice and song writing skill.
With the dream of a singing career since the age of 11, Sabrina has never let her youth, naysayers or tragedy prevent her from chasing after her dream. She was still only 11 when she recorded her first track( a Tainted Love cover) and only a year later wrote and coproduced her first original track titled“ Halfway to Neptune.”
The 2009 recession struck many, and it shattered Sabrina ' s home life leaving her family homeless and in 2010 she returned to the studio and recorded“ Homeless”, a track close to her heart. Her experiences led her to become an outspoken teen advocate for Teen Domestic Violence( and recorded a track called“ Victim of Love”) and the Homeless, bringing much needed attention to charities in San Francisco. Sabrina charged along and experimented with various genres.
Cut to 2011, Sabrina released Phases, an 11-track carefully orchestrated album which cleverly marked another phase in Sabrina’ s life. Sabrina continues to create music, whether it is an original track or a cover and her fanbase continues to grow daily as her listeners hang on her every word in the social media world.
After experimentation, Sabrina now has her sights on the EDM industry and we wait patiently( and excitedly!) as she works on her latest album. I know you won’ t be disappointed to hear genuinely positive music from a teen
who, unlike mainstream artists of today, is a positive role model. I got to talk to Sabina this week and had a few questions in mind.
You have an App! How did it come about? Who spearheaded the app creation?
I do! I’ m so happy you noticed it! I use Reverbnation to manage my press kit as well as to market and manage my music, fan emails lists, things like that. Reverbnation offers an app for Artists. At first I tried it for fun, and then
decided to keep it because my fans liked it. What was the most valuable lesson you learned from your stint being homeless? I learned to enjoy the little things in life and not to take anything for granted. Learning how fragile life is and having a lifestyle that can vanish was an eye-opener. It takes very little for everything you know and cherish to change in an instant.
What are you working on now? When can we expect the next track? Next album? I am working on an album. I am so excited about it and can’ t wait to share it. It’ s in the“ super-secret” stage right now. The next track should be out over the next two to three weeks. It’ s in post-production right now.
You are now delving into the EDM industry. From listening to your songs, it seems like a natural transition. Can you tell me what inspired said transition? I have been exploring all genres of music since I was a little girl. My last Album titled“ Phases” was just that, a tour of genres while I was learning to produce as well as learning what felt right for me. I really became inspired when surfing Soundcloud and EDM producers began asking me to collaborate with them. It is such a fun process collaborating with people around the world. I think it’ s especially cool because there are no limits to whom and how you can collaborate. With the internet and a drop box collaborations are easy.
