It’ s a matchup prone to chaotic games, making it one to watch nearly every year. Last season’ s meeting between the two was a thriller, complete with a game-winning drive over about the final minute for the Sooners.
As for this season, it’ s a big opportunity for Oklahoma and a game Texas can’ t afford to drop. The Longhorns can’ t get caught looking ahead to their next contest, when they face Georgia, and the Sooners are one of the nexttoughest opponents on their schedule.
LSU VS. OLE MISS
When: Oct. 12, time TBD Where: Baton Rouge, La. TV: TBD
This is another matchup that tends to yield fun, interesting games, and this season should be no exception. Both teams could very well enter this contest unbeaten, and both are seeking 12-team playoff bids.
Ole Miss has stacked its roster with one of the top transfer portal classes in the country. Jaxson Dart is back at quarterback, as are two of his top receivers from last year’ s 11-2 campaign and some intriguing running backs.
LSU is replacing Heisman winner Jayden Daniels at quarterback with a relatively unproven Garrett Nussmeier, and the Tigers have to turn around a defense that was one of the worst in the conference last season.
These are two teams with plenty at stake this year, and both will play Arkansas not long after they face each other.
TEXAS VS. GEORGIA
When: Oct. 19, time TBD Where: Austin, Texas TV: TBD
Both Texas and Georgia have multiple big games on their respective schedules, but this is one of the most anticipated games of the season. It features two teams with national title aspirations that appear likely to be among the top seeds in the expanded playoff. Both could be undefeated entering this game in Week 8, though both face formidable opponents before this game.
The Longhorns and Bulldogs have only played each other five times, but this could be the first of many more future matchups.
MISSOURI VS. OKLAHOMA When: Nov. 9, time TBD Where: Columbia, Mo. TV: TBD
An old Big 12 rivalry game will be played for the first time since 2011 when Missouri and Oklahoma meet. This edition could have big implications for a pair of teams hoping for 12-team playoff spots.
Missouri is a trendy pick for the playoff after an 11-2 season that ended in a Cotton Bowl win. The Tigers return many of the stars that powered that surprise run, most notably quarterback Brady Cook and wide receiver Luther Burden.
Missouri also has a favorable schedule, and Oklahoma is one of the toughest opponents on it. The Sooners will enter this game having just played Maine, while the Tigers will be coming off a game against Alabama, the other big challenge on their slate.
AUBURN VS. ALABAMA When: Nov. 30, time TBD Where: Tuscaloosa, Ala. TV: TBD
The Iron Bowl is appointment viewing every year. This year, it’ s the first edition without Saban since 2007.
Auburn isn’ t expected to have a stellar season: The Tigers were picked to finish 10th in the SEC in the preseason media poll. But the records for both teams in the Iron Bowl tend not to matter during the last week of the season.
Take last year’ s matchup, for example. Auburn was 6-5 entering its game against Alabama, and the Tide needed a miraculous touchdown with 32 seconds left to escape with the win.
If Alabama is down this year, at least by its standards, Auburn could have another golden opportunity for its first win over the Tide since 2019.

When: Nov. 30, time TBD
Where: College Station, Texas TV: TBD Texas A & M vs. Texas is a renewal of an old rivalry that, like Missouri vs. Oklahoma, hasn’ t been played since the last round of SEC realignment. The Longhorns won the last edition 27-25 in 2011.
You can count on a raucous crowd at Kyle Field. Depending on how the rest of the season plays out, Texas A & M could have a chance to spoil the Longhorns’ playoff hopes or force them into a lower seed. If Texas A & M puts together a solid season under its first-year coach, it could be a fun contest with plenty of stakes.
