As licensed members are aware, veterinarians swear their overarching commitment to animal health and wellbeing in the Veterinarians Oath. Although the College serves the public in its mandate, it also recognizes veterinarians’ commitment to promote animal health and welfare and relieve animal suffering. the public to understand Council’s position related to animal welfare in general. Naturally, the public has strong feelings on matters which concern animal welfare. When these issues involve veterinary services, the public looks to the College for a response. The new position statement establishes the parameters of the Council’s responsibility to the profession and the public on topics impacting the quality of life of animals.
