Moving towards launch of the new accreditation model , annual fee
At its June meeting , the College Council continued its review of the draft accreditation standards and approved the accreditation fee .
The new accreditation model , approved in 2017 , provides a flexible , and dynamic program to meet the needs of facility accreditation , enhance accountability related to facilities , and inspire greater public confidence in the oversight of veterinary facilities .
In the new model , a veterinarian defines their scope of practice associated with their facility and meets the relevant facility standards . This gives veterinarians more flexibility and reduces their administrative burden as veterinary care and services evolve . The continued focus on patient and public safety are the foundations for the outcomes-based approach .
Development of Standards
Extensive work , research and consultation has gone into developing the new accreditation standards . In the new model , every veterinary practice will need to meet Essential Standards . As well , there are Additional Scope of Services Standards that apply based on the services they provide .
In June , Council considered revisions to the standards based on the input received in the consultation . Council decided to consult with facility directors one more time to ensure the proposed revisions are clear and practical . Council will consider the additional feedback from facility directors at its September meeting .
Annual Fee
Council approved an annual fee for accreditation , replacing the inspection fee . The fee will be paid by Facility Directors during licence renewal .
