CPD ACTIVITY LOG

TREATING WILDLIFE
It ’ s the season when people enjoy being outdoors , which leads to findings of injured , sick or orphaned wild animals , including endangered and at-risk species .
The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act prohibits the public from keeping wildlife in captivity except for rehabilitation or treatment by a veterinarian . There are no restrictions prohibiting licensed members from treating injured or orphaned wildlife . However , it is not appropriate to keep wildlife at a veterinary facility longer than necessary to stabilitize it and arrange transport to a wildlife rehabilitation facility .
The Endangered Species Act enables veterinarians to possess or transport an endangered species for treatment . The regulations also permit a veterinarian to euthanize an endangered species .

Regulatory amendments require that software used in keeping medical records provides an audit trail .
The audit trail :
• records the date and time of each entry of information for each animal
• indicates any changes in the recorded information
• preserves the original content of the recorded information when changed or updated
• is capable of being printed separately from the recorded information of each animal
Please check with your software vendor to confirm the necessary information is being recorded appropriately .
