Transition Council begins work on CVPO practice standards
The Transition Council met on March 16 & 17, 2026. Replays from discussions are available at cvo. org / Council. The Transition Council meets next in June. The public is welcome to watch Council via the livestream; please contact the College to attend in-person. The Transition Council considered the following items in March:
Official Documents
The Transition Council began its work on professional practice standards for the College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario( CVPO).
A draft standard on interprofessional collaboration recognizes the Veterinary Professionals Act enables the public to access animal care providers within a risk and public interest-based framework. Transition Council asked College staff to continue work on the standard, to be reviewed again this fall.
In looking at the CVO’ s existing medical records policy, the Transition Council directed the CVPO policy to include expectations for veterinarian and veterinary technician members.
Further, Transition Council approved proposed changes to the standard on humane animal handling and restraint to apply to veterinarians and veterinary technicians.
In reviewing options for its policy on after-hours veterinary care, Transition Council approved direction that reflects the recommendations of the afterhours care task force, including clarity for the responsibility for after-hours veterinary care, the role of the facility director, clarification on“ reasonably prompt” and“ medically necessary” and clarification on returning care to the referring veterinarian member. The standards to support the CVPO will be shared for consultation once the regulations are confirmed.
Governance & Implementation
In other work, Transition Council discussed right touch regulation, its nominations and elections process for the CVPO Council, licensure pathways, and the use of a discipline tribunal. Replays from Transition Council’ s discussions are available on the College website.

College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario logo revealed
As transition continues, the Transition Council recently had a look at the new logo for the College of Veterinary Professionals of Ontario( CVPO).
The letters of the CVPO create a unique icon in colours that connect to professionalism, authority, health, knowledge, and evolution. The new
design maintains brand recognition while reflecting the College’ s evolution to the CVPO.
With a refreshed logo and visual identity, the look for the CVPO is familiar and recognizable, but also distinct, dynamic, and unique.
