COMMUNITY AND THE ARTS
The Power of Partnership
One of the best tools the public programs
department has is its partnerships. A successful
partnership shares audiences, venues, resources
and ideas. For over seven years public programs
manager Leslie Pierce and her team have enjoyed
developing working relationships with some of
the most creative people and organizations in
town. Below are a number of upcoming
programs and their partners. For more

Young Architects in the Making
The Museum has partnered with the American Institute of Architects since
2005 to present the Kids in Architecture program. This program introduces
concepts of architectural design to Richland District Two elementary school
students through tours of special exhibitions and the museum collection
galleries followed by hands-on projects in the studios.
Over the years topics have included everything from Frank Lloyd Wright
influenced designs for building facades to box kites inspired by the Eye to the
East exhibition. This year’s daylong workshop is based on works in the special
exhibition The Chemistry of Color: Contemporary African American Artists.
Students explore texture and color patterns as they create their
architectural masterpiece.
The Kids in Architecture Program is offered free of charge as part of the
Museum’s outreach to South Carolina schools designed to support and enrich
classroom curriculum.
