Most enthusiasts know the broad outlines of the Stratocaster story. Introduced in 1954, it incorporated lessons learned from Fender’ s first solidbody while introducing features that seemed remarkably forward-looking for the era. The contours, vibrato bridge, and three-pickup layout eventually became so familiar that it is easy to forget how unconventional they once appeared.
