This experimental prototype LP Custom embodies Les Paul’ s restless pursuit of tone. Included are components he personally mounted and modified for performance and sonic exploration: an original( likely rewound) P-90 bridge pickup, a rewound Alnico neck pickup, early hand-wound“ phantom coils” for hum cancellation, two experimental low-impedance pickups in Gibson covers, and an early Kauffmann Vib-Rola tailpiece— along with original control and cavity covers— each part a testament to his hands-on innovation.
