As collectors will tell you, there are still guitars out there waiting to surface. One such set came up just recently in Tacoma, WA … a 1956 Fender Stratocaster guitar and a 1956 Fender Tremolux amp. Rex Thompson purchased this guitar and amp combination new from Parlier Music in Bakersfield, California. Rex played in the church band at the Pentecostal Church of God in Earlimart, California in the mid-fifties. Earlimart was and is a small town about 32 miles north of Bakersfield in California’ s San Joaquin Valley.
Every evening Rex and his son Sam watched a television show broadcasted from KERO Channel 10 in Bakersfield, CA called Cousin Herb’ s Trading Post.“ Cousin” Herb Henson was the host and pianist on the show, and such artists as Joe and Rosalie Maphis, Larry and Lorrie Collins, and The Maddox Brothers and Rose played on it. Billy Mize was in the house band. Buck Owens or Merle Haggard or anyone who played the Blackboard on Chester Avenue would be a good candidate
