INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN
In memory of Klaus Naeve (1938-2015)
I
t is with sadness that we announce that
industry legend, Klaus Naeve has passed
away on 10 July 2015. Our sincerest
condolences to his loved ones.
After a short spell in hospital with a lung
infection in Johannesburg, Naeve passed
away on the morning of 10 July.
Naeve immigrated to South Africa from
Germany in 1963 to take up a position with
Linde. He later joined Lutz Refrigeration
in Johannesburg. In 1968 he started his
own refrigeration contracting business,
Klaus Engineering, where he remained in
business until his passing away.
In 1972 he married Pia, a Swiss national,
and they had two daughters, Karin and
Petra. Karin joined her father in business for
a few years while Petra resides in the USA.
Although small in stature, Naeve tackled
some of South Africa’s largest industrial
refrigeration projects and mostly worked
directly with clients.
“Klaus was a hard task master. He
always paid his employees above the
average industry rate but in return he
expected all to work as much as he did,”
remembers Bob Vuletic of Multistage
Cooling, who worked for Naeve from 1973
until 1987. “Klaus would tackle any job in
refrigeration. Most of his clients remained
with him from day one because of his
quality of workmanship and expertise.
Klaus was also probably the first to build
screw packages locally and all parts
except for compressor and motors were
built in-house.”
Naeve was well-known throughout
the industrial refrigeration industry and
will long be remembered by many as the
“small giant”.
Our sympathy goes to his wife Pia,
daughters and family. CLA
Klaus Naeve.
Eurammon and Eurovent join forces
E
urammon, the initiative for natural
refrigerants, and Eurovent, the
European association for refrigeration
and air-conditioning technology, will in
future combine their efforts to advocate
the use of natural refrigerants. Monika
Witt, chairwoman of Eurammon, and
Christian Herten, outgoing president of
Eurovent, have signed a corresponding
Memorandum of Understanding.
The more stringent F-gas regulations of the
EU and the proposed capping of HFCs, have
increased the ecological awareness among
operators and has boosted the market
for natural refrigerants. In this context,
Eurammon and Eurovent have agreed to a
strong cooperation. In the future, Eurammon,
as the centre of excellence for using natural
refrigerants, will support the new partner
organisation with its vast experience and
expertise, in order to act as a driving force in
achieving their shared objectives.
