INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN
In conversation with:

Lucien Jansen, the new PPECB

S
outh Africa's official export
certification agency, the Perishable
Products Export Control Board
(PPECB) appointed Lucien Jansen as its
new chief executive officer (CEO) on 1
July. We ask Jansen a couple of questions
on the role of the board within the industry
and how he sees the future…
1. Why are you the right man for the job?
Lucien Jansen (LJ): I have been working

the past 10 years and gained valuable

knowledge on the dynamics within the
perishable produce exports industry. The
industry is ever-changing and requires a
great degree of flexibility. I am responsive
of nature and generally possess good
stakeholder management skills. I believe my
conceptual thinking and action-orientated
nature will be of great value in building on
the past performances of the PPECB.

organisation’s objectives. I will dedicate my
tenure to ensure that we capitalise on this

destined for export. In partnership with
industry and government, the PPECB

African perishable produce.
4. How do you see the future of the PPECB?
I believe that the PPECB will continue playing
a pivotal role in ensuring product quality; it
might however be done differently. I further
believe that the PPECB is ideally positioned
to play an even greater role in providing
relevant statistical information to the export
industry and further expanding on its food
safety mandate.
3. What issues will you be addressing within
the organisation, and the industry, in your
new capacity as CEO?
LJ: Over the past few years, the PPECB
made great progress on creating an
