EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN Africa’s Big 7 attracts visitors from across the world #AB7 By: John Ackermann – editor True to its name, Africa’s Big 7 (AB7) exhibition, held at Gallagher Convention Centre in Johannesburg from 21-23 June, attracted 16 300 visitors from 66 different countries T he 13th AB7, one of the few trade shows open on a Sunday, showcased the entire food and beverage supply chain from harvested produce and raw materials to manufacturing, processing and packaging material, retail equipment and finished products. Visitors from the hospitality, beverage and food trade had a wide choice of foodstuffs and beverages that caught their attention: Aloe Juice from Ladysmith, wines from Abri Drift, Ashton Cellars, Welgemeend Wine Estate, frozen waffles from Augustin’s Waffles in Belgium, frozen chicken from the APC group in Ukraine, fruit juice from Beit Bridge Juicing in Zimbabwe, frozen fish from Betafish (Estonia), Maun Frozen Foods(Turkey), canned Jack Mackerel fish from Etosha Canning (Walvis Bay), beer from Namib Breweries (Windhoek) and Obolon (Ukraine). The support services group of exhibitors included the Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB), 18 the South African National Halaal Association (SANHA), Taiwan External Trade Development Council, the Cape Winelands District Municipality and International Trade Administration Commission of South Africa (ITAC). Equipment, packaging and logistics included Acrow Racking and Shelving, Wire Belt Systems (wire mesh conveyor belts) and Etlin International (cold storage and logistics).
