Commercial Transport Academy

Ctrack has announced a partnership with Commercial Transport Academy ( CTA ), one of the premier providers of high-quality training for truck drivers in South Africa .

CTA ’ s comprehensive driver training equips students for a successful start in the transport industry . Expert instructors provide both the hands-on training and knowledge needed to properly and safely operate a truck . CTA also aims to empower women in a competitive industry through comprehensive driver learnership programmes .

“ The Woman in Trucking initiative will empower 300 female-owned enterprises , 120 female professionals and 495 men and woman , truck and bus drivers over the next three years ,” said Commercial Transport Academy chief executive officer , Nicci Scott .

The driver training courses offered by CTA include NQF accredited certificates such as a TETA Certificate in Professional Driving and a QCTO Certificate in Truck Driving . So high is the demand for good quality drivers that completing these courses guarantees job placement in the industry .

“ There is a big demand for properly trained truck drivers in South Africa , and the Commercial Transport Academy is doing a great job fulfilling this need . Ctrack is proud to partner with the CTA , not only are they striving to put safe drivers behind the wheels of trucks , but they are also aiding in the diversification of this sector by opening the door for women to become truck drivers ,” said Hein Jordt , managing director of Ctrack .

The partnership with CTA will see Ctrack install their high-level Solo tracking units along with front and rear dashcams and the BI monitor in the vehicles used as part of their training programmes . These vehicles include two Volvo trucks fitted with a refrigeration trailer and a flat deck trailer carrying a 12-metre container , respectively .

The Ctrack Iris smartphone application ( app ), allows users to view camera footage for control and playback of up to four cameras . In addition , the in-cab Driver Behaviour Indicator gives drivers realtime feedback that encourages them to immediately improve their driving style .

SOVEREIGN FOODS OPENS NEW PLANT

Sovereign Foods is the third largest producer of frozen , fresh , and value-added chicken products in the country , which since 1948 have been part of mealtimes for millions of South African households . Their success is based not only on innovation , but also on world-class quality standards .

To sustain these quality standards , in April 2021 , Sovereign commissioned a new processing and refrigeration plant in Uitenhage . To ensure that the project ran as efficiently as possible , Sovereign tasked Energy Partners Refrigeration ( EP ) to provide the equipment .

EP is a leading South African company whose Cooling as a Service ( CaaS ) business model entails them retaining ownership of the refrigeration equipment and charging their clients for the refrigeration they provide . “ This means that we go out of our way to provide the most energy-efficient and reliable brands that we can – the better the plant runs , the better we all do ,” says Hougaard Langeveldt , EP design engineer manager . “ It was for this reason that we selected BITZER as the equipment supplier for the Ammonia Compressor Packs .”

BITZER South Africa supplied , and gave start-up assistance , for three Ammonia Compressor Packs ( ACP ). To ensure that they had the level of international expertise required for a project of this magnitude , BITZER provided both a local Green Point service technician as well as a BITZER ACP commissioning specialist from India .

Torsten Steinborn , MD of Bitzer SA added “ We were incredibly excited about the opportunity to provide this type of solution for this project . The ACP installation is a first of its kind in Southern Africa for industrial refrigeration , and we are delighted to be on the cutting edge of this innovative technology .”

The ACPs are designed specifically for Ammonia to meet the growing demand for highly efficient natural refrigerant solutions in the industrial sector and are available in a wide variety of options , with accessories .

The ACP is further optimised by intelligent operation of multiple screw compressors at their peak efficiency point . The multiple compressor operation results in low starting current which reduces peak-demand consumption and installation costs . The ACP has a compact footprint and comes fully assembled and pre-wired . Excellent reliability and redundancy is guaranteed by the 2 or 3 independent compressors , motors and BITZER IQ modules .

All sensors for critical measurements are doubled up to avoid disruptive shutdowns . Ease of installation and serviceability is possible through bypassing individual compressors and main oil filter system from secondary oil system without the shutdown of the pack . These benefits result in the lowest cost of ownership and supported the decision by EP to opt for this solution .

All ACPs come complete with a fully welded plate & shell oil cooler and state-of-the-art 3-stage horizontal oil separator . The supplied equipment also provides heat recovery for hot water supply of 60 ° C from the oil cooler .

For increased part load efficiency all compressors are equipped with VSDs , which can operate at peak load demands up to 70Hz . The ACP LINK is the central component that handles management , monitoring , protection , operation and communication of the entire ACP . The ACP LINK is prepared for Modbus TPC / IP communication with the superior plant control system .

Yeartman Tsakeni , BITZER ’ s local Green Point service technician commented on the installation of the ACP units , “ We supplied two Booster LT Packs for low temperatures running at -40 ° C / -5 ° C and provide 1326 kWR , and one High Stage Pack for high temperatures running at -5 ° C / 34 ° C providing 2217 kWR .”

EP not only designed a state-of-the-art refrigeration system suitable for the long-term requirement of Sovereign , they also supplied a solution for the industrial HVAC on the plant .

“ BITZER offered an alternative compressor solution which had more compressors than your traditional processing plant which provided us with lower running costs and service time ,” said Langeveldt . “ As we have become accustomed to , BITZER provided EP a solution with a low initial capital cost as well as a low total lifecycle cost . It was a perfect offering for us as we were looking for an innovative and economic solution . Sovereign Foods is now able to concentrate on their core business of producing and supplying chicken products locally and internationally and not worry about the complications that come with running a refrigeration plant of this scale . We could not be happier .”
