Next stage in smart heat revolution unveiled at Energy Tech Summit
Octopus Energy recently launched the smart heating system Cosy Octopus with the vow : ‘ This paves the way to heat pumps for everyone .’ It launched the heating system at the WIRED & Octopus Energy Tech Summit in London , and it will be available from December .
It consists of the ‘ Cosy 6 ’, Octopus ’ new heat pump ; ‘ Cosy Hub ’, a home controls system ; ‘ Cosy Pods ’, room sensors ; a bespoke smart tariff and the award-winning Octopus 5-star service .
‘ Cosy Octopus ’ is free for businesses and homes that don ’ t need any work to fit the system after the Boiler Upgrade Scheme ( BUS ). The system will enter the market with a 6kW heat pump – aimed at a typical three-bed home – with more and larger models following over the next six months .
‘ Cosy 6 ’ is Octopus Energy ’ s first heat
pump built entirely in-house and has six patent applications pending . It isn ’ t just as warm as a boiler , but its radical new design ends the world of ‘ ugly heat pumps ’ and the ‘ Cosy Pods ’ ensure comfort across the house , efficiently . Powered by Octopus ’ technology platform Kraken , the Cosy eco-system works seamlessly to offer the best performance at the cheapest and greenest times , allowing customers to save money on heating bills without compromising on comfort .
Octopus entered the heat pump market in 2021 with the launch of Britain ' s first R & D centre for heat pumps . Since then , the company has invested over R1-billion to drive the rollout of heat pumps and help decarbonise the economy , whereby the heating of buildings accounts for over 17 % of carbon emissions as part of wider efforts to reduce these emissions and reach net zero .

New capacity regulation technology for BOCK CO 2 compressors

NTROL technology is a new , efficient compressor capacity regulator that allows the capacity of transcritical BOCK CO 2 compressors to be adjusted – almost steplessly – to the current capacity requirements of the system . In doing so , the regulation covers a unique range between 100 % and 25 % capacity , depending on the operating conditions .
This ensures great economic and technical advantages , especially in application areas with highly fluctuating capacity requirements , such as in many industrial process or supermarket applications : Start-and-stop operation of the compressors is minimised , which reduces the risk of wear , and thus increases the service lifetime of the compressors , including the drive motors . The newly developed system from BOCK includes a digital capacity regulation , which enables an almost stepless adjustment at high part load requirements by means of modulating control of the solenoid valves with high switching frequency via an external system controller .

NTROL is an attractive alternative to capacity regulation of CO 2 compressors with simple compressor start-stop or solutions with frequency inverters .
The regulator can be used as an accessory component for all transcritical BOCK CO 2 four- and six-cylinder compressors of the series HGX24 CO 2 T , HGX34 CO 2
T , HGX46 CO 2
T , which are optionally equipped with one or a maximum of two capacity regulators ( four-cylinder ) or maximum three capacity regulators ( six-cylinder ) per compressor .

NGP 130 + enhances lower end of premium PSA nitrogen generator range
Atlas Copco announced the addition of a new model , the NGP 130 +, to its PSA nitrogen generator line-up .
At the same time , it is introducing next-generation control and automation technology to all of its smaller ( 8-130 ) NGP + units . The premium NGP + range is now complete , in terms of available sizes and features – delivering best-in-class flexibility , reliability and low cost of ownership .
The NGP 130 + offers a nitrogen flow of 37-264 Nm ³/ h ( depending on the selected purity ), giving customers in this segment a single nitrogen generation solution built to their needs . The new model completes Atlas Copco ’ s premium Pressure Swing Adsorption ( PSA ) nitrogen offer . The NGP + range is now available in all flow sizes from 1.9 to 2871 Nm3 / h ( at reference conditions ).
