PROJECT
INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN
The insulated -35°C and -10°C surge drums with stainless steel cladding has a
polished finish.
Access doors to the three cold rooms are fitted with high-speed vertical doors and
strip curtains.
At the heart of the refrigeration plant are four Mayekawa/Mycom 8M directly coupled
reciprocating compressors.
Liebenberg, a residential property
developer from Mount Edgecombe, was
keen on a development in Dube. “Living
close to the OR Tambo International
Airport in Johannesburg as a kid, I always
had a vision of a property development
close to an airport. Meeting up with
Hoffie was purely by chance and a
golden opportunity to make my dream a
reality, even though the development of
commercial/industrial property would be
new to me,” said Liebenberg.
SUSTAINABLE PARTNERSHIP
The first estimate of the cold store on the
Dube site amounted to R85m and meant
that Rautenbach and Liebenberg needed
further funding before submitting an
application to the KZN Growth Fund for the
completion of the entire project.
“During an interview with a group of
investors and bankers, we managed to get
funding through the KZN Growth Fund. We
met with Tebogo Mogapi, a businessman
from Gauteng, to complete our B-BBEE
partnership. He saw potential in our proposal
and, together with a group of his business
colleagues, he got involved. The rest is
history and funding to the value of R64.2m
was secured for the project to go ahead,”
explained Rautenbach.
