With a new fully-equipped factory in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town and an exciting new slurry generator to add to its flow-ice product offering, PAM Refrigeration may be expanding, but continues to place quality first.

“ Quality control has become a key issue in our business to maintain compliance with industry standards and client requirements,” explains Evert Potgieter, PAM Refrigeration managing director.
Most of the company’ s contracts are for complete refrigeration solutions off-shore, and it recently completed contracts in Angola, Namibia, Las Palmas, Australia and Chile.“ With each contract we aim to minimise the amount of work to be done on-site and we pre-assemble and test as much of the equipment possible in our fully equipped factory in Killarney Gardens, Cape Town,” explains Potgieter.

“ Quality control has become a key issue in our business to maintain compliance with industry standards and client requirements.”
The new facility in Killarney Gardens has designated areas for the manufacture of its different products that include everything from ice generators and refrigerated sea water systems for onboard marine applications to ammonia blast freezers. PAM’ s product range is extensive for marine and land-based applications and 100 % of the steel frames, pressure vessels and piping is manufactured inhouse.
Evert went on to explain the philosophy of the company:“ Our priority is to meet our contractual obligations that all equipment will operate efficiently and meet the required duty or better and help to develop the business of our clients. Premature failure
of any equipment or under-performance cannot be tolerated not only because it becomes extremely costly to travel to far-off sites but it also tarnishes relations with valued clients.”
Having an overhead gantry over the full length of its factory and access from two roads has added to the mobility of its production line.

the company has strictly-enforced quality controls and its staff are held accountable for all work done.“ With our quality controls, we are able to track any deviations in manufacturing or assembly and implement remedial action without delay,” he says.
The quality and conformity of material and equipment bought from local suppliers is of even greater importance. All equipment and material, when received, is placed in a designated quarantine area. Only after the items have been inspected for compliance with the company’ s requirements and the supporting documentations checked, will items be released to the production line.“ These quality checks and controls will certainly prevent some of the costly problems we have encountered in the past with faulty material,” says Potgieter.“ We expect that all measures are taken to maintain our market reputation of quality products and solutions.”
New products PAM’ s single flow-ice generator with a refrigeration capacity of 20kW( 6 tonne), packaged in racks up to eight generators together with a pre-chiller has been its“ workhorse” over the years, bringing the company to where they are today. The new range of EverTube slurry generators, has increased the single generator capacity to 250kW( 70 tonne). This can be fitted in multiples to allow system capacity up to 1 500kW( 425 tonne). This new capability has increased the company’ s capacity range by approximately 10-fold compared to previous systems. When packaged, the footprint of the unit doubled with an output increase of 10-fold.

demands for ice like district cooling systems or mine cooling. In fact, the new flow ice machine has no limit in capacity. The added advantage is that fewer motors are required to drive the ice generators.“ In a nutshell, our new design offers very much higher output per footprint area and requires less power input. With our quality control, patented design owned by EverFlo, and our new EverTube slurry ice heat exchanger, we aim to be the world market leaders in our field,” says Potgieter. CLA
