EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN WorldSkills deadline extended – enter now! #WSSA The application deadline for the local WorldSkills competition has been extended to 15 May so HVAC&R artisans still have time to submit their entries online. T he next WorldSkills competition takes place in 2017 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, giving top young artisans from all over the world a chance to compete in a life-changing global event. Artisans will compete in a variety of categories, from hairdressing to welding, and HVAC&R hopefuls can enter in the ‘air conditioning and refrigeration’ category. The regional World Skills South Africa (WSSA) competitions will take place after entries close and from these, a category winner will be selected to represent their country abroad. “We have a considerable talent pool of young artisans in South Africa, and the World Skills South Africa competition is both about celebrating that talent, as well as communicating how key the artisanal sector is to South Africa's economy,” said Dr Raymond Patel, WSSA chair. This is your chance to grow your career via a sponsored journey of a lifetime and represent South Africa at the international competition in Abu Dhabi. For the application form, visit www.worldskillssa.dhet.gov.za About WorldSkills WorldSkills International (WSI), the largest skills competition in the world, was founded in 1950. It is a global organisation that promotes vocational, technological and service oriented education and training. It promotes skilled careers in 72 member countries and regions, all working with youth, educators, governments, and industries to help prepare the workforce and talent of today for the jobs of the future. The young professionals, who are selected by their respective countries, may only participate once in the competition and must be between the ages of 18 and 22 years. In South Africa the WorldSkills initiative is championed by the Department of Higher Education and Training. Even though South Africa has participated in WSI events since 1990, WSSA was formally established in April 2013 by the Deputy Minister of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana.
