INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN

Gas detector series

Bacharach ’ s MGS-400 series gas detectors makes compliance with mechanical equipment room and refrigeration safety codes simple and easy , saving time and money on equipment and installation , and sets the standard in NH3 and CO₂ detection .
Using the MGS-400 App , users can intuitively use , commission and maintain their gas detection system without the need for specialty training or tools . Pre-calibrated sensor modules simplify maintenance , take minutes to exchange and do not require the use of calibration gas .
The MGS-400 sensors can trigger additional audio-visual alarms and act as a standalone gas detection system or integrate easily into a BMS / BAS or with Bacharach ’ s optional MGS-408 Gas Detection Controller . Some benefits include :
• Quick and easy installation of all wiring ; daisy-chain power and digital communications .
• Fast and easy sensor maintenance . Eliminates need for calibration gas .
• Easy calibration process with mobile app . Generate calibration certificates for documentation .
• Locate the sensor element in hardto-reach areas and the base unit where convenient for electrical and communication wiring ( MGS-460 ).
• Mitigates false alarms and optimizes accuracy in refrigeration applications .
• Suitable for use in cold rooms and freezers down to -40 ° F / C .
• On-board alarm notification supports compliance with ASHRAE 15 / EN 378 .

Adiabatic humidification technology

CAREL ’ s chillBooster the ideal evaporative cooling solution for both retrofits and new designs . The solution exploits the evaporative cooling principle , whereby the air is cooled before entering the condensing unit ( chiller or dry cooler ).
Atomisation of water into micrometric droplets gives rise to spontaneous evaporation , a process that takes place by using heat from the surrounding air , thus lowering its temperature . In the summer this brings reductions of around 10-15 ° C in condensing unit air inflow temperature , meaning a lightening of the workload and consequently considerable energy savings .
In addition to chillBooster technology being successfully used in existing stores , it is also ideal for new installations : fluid coolers that have been designed to work with the CAREL solution can be smaller and more economical , with a smaller heat exchange surface required due to the lower air inflow temperature than in systems that do not use evaporative cooling . Finally , the wide range of CAREL products offers everything needed to complete the evaporative cooling solution , with a series of products ranging from temperature and pressure probes to an electrical panel for managing the chillBooster unit .

Cost-saving improvements in food plants

NSK ’ s Life-Lube bearing units are proving increasingly popular in the food and beverage industry . These advanced bearings combine the corrosion-resistant properties of Silver-Lube housings with the excellent sealing and lubricating properties of Moulded-Oil inserts .
Life-Lube units are specifically for use in sectors where contact with water and process fluids is unavoidable , and where excellent chemical resistance and long lubrication life are primary requirements . By taking advantage of the benefits available , food and beverage plants can tap into considerable savings from reduced downtime and maintenance costs . Primary among the design considerations is the unit ’ s housing material : thermoplastic polyester ( PBT ), which is highly resistant to corrosion . In conjunction with Moulded-Oil bearing inserts and nitrile rubber seals , this design guarantees good chemical resistance and long service life .
NSK has taken great care to ensure the design of its Life-Lube bearing units are free of crevices and ‘ bug traps ’ that could harbour mould or bacteria . As a result , the bearings are ideal for food manufacturing environments that involve dust ( dry or wet ), water ( spray or submerged ) and wet abrasive contamination , as well as temperatures up to 80 ° C . Life Lube bearing units are also suitable for use involving low temperatures , down to -18 ° C .

Coolers offer 33 % energy savings

Staycold International , a South African manufacturer of self-contained commercial fridges and freezers , offers supermarket and restaurant owners energy efficient units to save on their monthly electricity bills .
Staycold units have been found to use over 33 % less electricity than other brands in a recent energy test at an operational restaurant business in Johannesburg . With most supermarkets , restaurants and bars having multiple refrigeration units , these savings can often amount to tens of thousands of Rands per annum .
• Units are more energy efficient owing to the following technologies and designs :
• Hydrocarbon refrigerants
• High energy efficient fan motors
• Digital energy management device ( EMD )
• Low Emissivity glass doors
Staycold ’ s leading cooler , their HD1140- HC , which has a consumption figure of
3.18 kWh / 24hr equates to a cost of R7 per day . As of the Eskom tariff increase effective from April 2022 , that same cooler will cost just under R8 per day . Other brands have been seen to use closer to 10kWh / 24hrs , so the post hike running costs of these units would be more than R20 per day . The Staycold HD1140-HC could save clients R360 per month , or more than R4000 per year . With a few units , this could equate to hundreds of thousands of Rands that could be recorded as a profit .
