The South African Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association ( SARACCA ) has been tasked with accepting and vetting all applications from the HVAC & R sector for registration by SAQCC Gas . Barney Richardson , director of SARACCA , provided insight to the registration process and requirements .
“ Compliance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations can be achieved through training in the safe handling of refrigerants at a recognised training provider to verify competence ,” says Richardson . “ The registration of mechanics , installers , and technicians under this scheme is mandated by the Department of Labour in terms of the Pressure Equipment Regulations . The authorised person referred to above , is called an ‘ Authorised Refrigeration Gas Practitioner ’ by SAQCC Gas . There are a number of categories of registration covering semiskilled installers and skilled artisans working on refrigeration systems and refrigeration associated with air-conditioning systems .”
