The South African Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors Association( SARACCA) has been tasked with accepting and vetting all applications from the HVAC & R sector for registration by SAQCC Gas. Barney Richardson, director of SARACCA, provided insight to the registration process and requirements.
“ Compliance with the Pressure Equipment Regulations can be achieved through training in the safe handling of refrigerants at a recognised training provider to verify competence,” says Richardson.“ The registration of mechanics, installers, and technicians under this scheme is mandated by the Department of Labour in terms of the Pressure Equipment Regulations. The authorised person referred to above, is called an‘ Authorised Refrigeration Gas Practitioner’ by SAQCC Gas. There are a number of categories of registration covering semiskilled installers and skilled artisans working on refrigeration systems and refrigeration associated with air-conditioning systems.”
