Efficiency , safety and sustainability for refrigerated showcases
Heosbox CO2 is a compact , water-cooled condensing unit , fully designed and developed by Carel . The solution is used on semi plug-in showcases in waterloop systems , as an alternative to the traditional centralised architecture with compressor racks and remote showcases supplied by long refrigerant distribution lines .
Heosbox integrates Heos technology : BLDC compressors and electronic expansion valves . Synchronised action of these two components through Heos control logic allows continuous modulation of performance . In this way , each showcase can operate independently of the others , giving the lowest possible energy consumption in every condition .
The self-contained design eliminates the need for welding and makes it easy to install units in the field .
The decentralised design minimises the risk of refrigerant leaks . The use of smart components and related IoT services further increase the reliability of the solution .

CIP seat cleaning saves
The new Alfa Laval ThinkTop pulse seat clean for drain valves saves up to 95 % in cleaning-in-place ( CIP ) liquid .
Drain valves comprise up to 20 % of all valves in a typical processing plant . But cleaning them is costly , difficult and timeconsuming due to long cleaning cycles and the risk of pressure shocks . The new Alfa Laval ThinkTop pulse seat clean addresses all these issues , quickly and effectively making drain valves spotless while delivering savings .
Short bursts , or pulses , drive the valve cleaning process , activating the valve when shear forces peak . Each positionbased pulse takes less than a second , preventing pressure shocks in the system . The pulse creates high turbulent flow as the liquid passes through the narrow gap between the valve house and valve seat , effectively removing all residuals for spotless drain valves .
Intended for use with single-seat valves or butterfly valves used as drain valves , pulse seat clean is a standard feature of ThinkTop V50 and V70 sensing and control units with one solenoid valve . The pulse seat clean simplifies valve commissioning , prevents pressure shocks , and reduces CIP liquid and time .

Meeting local and international testing
Staycold International , a South African manufacturer of selfcontained commercial fridges and freezers , ensures that all units they manufacture are tested and fully comply with stringent international safety standards . This includes their latest range of even more environmentally friendly coolers which utilise flammable hydrocarbon R290 refrigerant . Staycold therefore have their Letter of Authority ( LOA ) that is issued by the NRCS in South Africa .
There are no independent , 3 rd party testing laboratories in South Africa that offer full IEC ( International Electrotechnical Commission ) testing of hydrocarbon refrigerant units to IEC 60335 , so Staycold have to send their cabinets to SGS ’ s laboratory in Turkey for them to be assessed and tested to this requirement . Without this test report confirming their compliance , Staycold would have been unable to obtain their LOA from the NCRS .
The refrigerant ( R290 ) used in the HD1140-HC and its sister products is a net-zero compatible alternative to more common HFC-based systems . Safety measures and compliance to internationally recognised standards are paramount in these products , to safeguard the public and other users of these coolers throughout their lifespan .
