Keeping up to date

Technology , trends and industryinfluencing factors are changing at a very fast pace these days , so keeping up has almost become a full time experience .

Who would have thought twenty years ago that the level of innovation seen today would play such a large role in business success . In fact , these days one needs to know far more than just around your direct circle . Any company owner that is not aware of several conditions of doing business , global trade , insurance , labour or logistics – to name a few , will have a hard time staying competitive . Even the simplest of business models now can fail owing to the smallest oversight .
The world has been through , and still continues to navigate , not only the regular disruption on many levels that we have become accustomed to , but essentially business , economic and methodology “ shocks ” that have far reaching implications . Being up to date has therefore become so important , not only from a service point of view , but the way in which technology advancement has shifted , as well as consumer behavior - which is the major driver for so many industries . Also , things that were 100 % relevant many years ago , in some instances could have already become redundant in the ways things work , and potentially will work in the near future .
It is also interesting to see that some of the best ideas are coming from horizontallyassociated sectors where the view of a design or process is different and takes the simplest approach . It is also clear that the process of digitisation is now being pushed ‘ full steam ’ and has been said to be the one particular element that will make or break companies heading to the future . It is obvious that technology , reporting and connectivity have become high priorities for the customer who wants to reach optimal efficiency – not only from an economic and energy point of view , but from a people and resource perspective as well .
With the projected exponential growth of the global population , rising costs , and stressed electrical generation supply systems that have been seen of late across several regions ( not only in SA ), it is innovation that will save the day and also be responsible for better circular economy products and minimising of waste – especially in the cold chain related to much needed foods and medicines .
So much more to have to deal with these days ! How do you keep up to date with everything going on in your world ?
In this issue we cover several local and international news items , association updates and contributions . Read about plant safety as well as the disconnect between science and what is applied out in the field when it comes to fresh fruit and vegetables from our regular contributors . I would love to hear from you should you have an
opinion about any of the topics covered , or something you want to address . We also look at insulated panels and their various ( and growing ) uses and , in fact , complexity in terms of the options one has when designing facilities , specifying products and what the capabilities are of the local manufacturing sector here . Did you know that in Australia , insulated panels are being trialled for complete up-market house construction too – from the floors to the walls and the roofs . A modular design that is so simple to erect that all you need is a handful of people on site and a couple of days and you have a complete structure ! Locally these products have also been used in several low-cost housing projects aswell . More importantly , the use of “ cold storage ” in the informal sector has grown substantially over recent years showing that the knowledge in the supply chain is moving up as the impact of waste becomes more real . More people are keeping up to date with technology and better practices .
We are also eager to hear from you around what you thought of FRIGAIR 2022 , so please drop us an email or give us a call !
This month ’ s quote is one that stood out to me . So often we follow the easiest path and that can mean that we miss out on better things now , and in the future !
“ Only those who attempt the absurd can achieve the impossible .” – Albert Einstein
