Education and upskilling of staff is an important aspect at Acrow .
Celebrating 75 years and continuing to look forward By Benjamin Brits
Back in 1946 with just three staff members , Acrow was born as a local manufacturer producing basic scaffolding and props .
Today , Acrow has grown into a market leader in the racking and shelving sector and employs over 350 people . Their operation currently occupies over 46 000m 2 of production area at their factory and head office in Johannesburg .
They further have full-service warehouses in Cape Town and Europe with agents throughout Southern Africa , and international branches in the United Kingdom and the United States .
Since inception , the company has continued to build on a reputation of quality , innovation and service where the directors and managers work side by side with their staff and have followed the strategy of continual upgrading of equipment to the latest technology to ensure unrivalled excellence .
Acrow is ISO 9001 accredited , OSHAS 18001 accredited , and BEE compliant . The organisation is committed to skills development aligned to BEE codes of practice , and believe their greatest assets are their employees – where some have in fact been with the company for decades – and along with that , banking many years of experience that has produced extensive skillsets and knowledge .
With the primary view to always manufacture to customer requirements , the company is continuing to expand their range as gaps in the market are identified locally and internationally , improving on existing products , and developing new products for their existing customers with the idea that as their clients evolve , so do they . This in turn results in different products that can be offered . Their strategy further includes dedicated support of other local producers and products as a local manufacturer themselves .

Sandra Moya , chief executive officer of Acrow says , “ From the company ’ s origins , we have been through development of many new products as the markets have changed . Today we have reached a point where we are now highly involved with various automated processes that are starting to become a big trend in both warehousing and logistics , and so moving forward we must then also diversify in this kind of product to remain relevant . 2021 ,
as our 75 th year in business , will very much be one of a development process in these types of solutions .”
UPSKILLING STAFF AND THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA Acrow is continually training and upskilling their staff through their highly effective development programme as they facilitate their employees through the factory , either as an apprentice or through an opportunity
