When James Refrigeration in Cape Town was tasked with overhauling the cooling and refrigeration capabilities at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town , one of the biggest hospitals in the country , they turned to Eurocool to assist in the planning and eventual rollout of a cooling and refrigeration solution .

This was a very interesting project to be involved in ” commented Gavin Wiffen , Eurocool Cape Town branch manager , “ there was a requirement for different types of cooling within different applications however the underlying requirement based on the historical abilities were around compressor reliability , energy efficiency and overall life cycle costs . As a result , we were not hesitant in offering BITZER as a solution .”
In total 20 units were incorporated into the project with the racks being built locally by SCM Ref Africa . The BITZER units included 15 x 2CES-4Y semi-hermetic , 4 x 4HE-25Y and 1 x 4EES-6Y . These units were used to power 12 cold rooms , four blast freezers and four freezer rooms – an incredible amount of energy and refrigeration requirement . Additionally , blower coils from Recam were used in the build which was finished towards the end of December 2022 . BITZER Compressors

no issues from a system strain perspective . We are comfortable that all units are working perfectly and the installation seems like a resounding success ,” commented Douglas James , owner of James Refrigeration .
