Improved access to Eurocool
Cape Town branch
T
he Cape Town branch of Eurocool has
relocated to spacious premises at 36
Neptune Street in Paarden Eiland.
“Our storage capacity has increased by
60% pallet positions, mostly due to the roof
height. The off-road, secure parking and
easy access has been welcomed by all
our clients. At the previous branch, parking
and access from the very busy Section
Street was problematic,” says Gavin Wiffen,
Eurocool regional manager, Western Cape
and Namibia.
Rodney Taylor, MD of Eurocool, adds:
“All our branches in Johannesburg
(Randburg and Booysens), Durban, Pretoria,
Middelburg, Bloemfontein and Cape
Town, have a busy over-the-counter trade
and easy access with secure parking is
welcomed by clients.”
In terms of product lines, Taylor says
sales of Bitzer compressors have exceeded
expectations since the signing of the
distributor agreement in June 2018. Other
product lines such as the imported Danfoss

Optyma condensing units have shown
steady growth because of reliability and
ease of installation.
Wiffen concludes, “Our new location
in central Paarden Eiland has become a
popular meeting place for the trade on a
Friday afternoon to socialise and network.”

At the time of visiting the new premises it
brought back many memories of when I, as
the general manager of TAF Refrigeration,
a division of Airco Engineering, was tasked
to project manage the erection of the
building, now occupied by Eurocool. The
building was erected on one of the few
then remaining vacant sites in Paarden
Eiland.
In speaking to Gavin Wiffen, I was able to
explain the purpose of the high roller shutter
door, now providing access to the store.
Before moving in, the storage area had a
pit in the floor, which was filled in before
Eurocool took occupancy. At the time of

construction, the high roller shutter door
was to allow entry of full height refrigerated
trailers and vehicles, and the service pit
to access the underside of vehicles when
fitting the compressors of vehicle-driven
Carrier transport refrigeration units.
In September 1979, Airco Engineering
was appointed the first distributor of Carrier
Transicold Transport Refrigeration Units in
South Africa.
The building at 36 Neptune Street was
purpose-built by Airco Engineering for
the refrigerated transport sector and air-
conditioned luxury coaches. CLA
