Gustav Albrecht seen undergoing training to be registered by SAQCC Gas in category A as an authorised person in the handling of refrigerants .
Covid 19 slowed down his training , but in the last 2 months Albrecht has been to the college for four half days towards gaining registration by SAQCC-Gas in the safe handling of refrigerants . At each session he has had one on one training by Hobbs .
To obtain registration , Albrecht will have to prove competent in Unit Standards 116700 ( safety in handling class 1 & 2 refrigerants ), 116223 ( work place safety ), 116334 ( handling of refrigerant containers ), 116355 ( refrigerant trade tools ) and elements of 116224 ( basic refrigeration cycle ). On being tested as competent and having the required knowledge , and all supporting records completed , a certificate bearing Albrecht ’ s name and employer is issued . The employer then completes an application form and submits to SARACCA with the required fees of R2530-00 and passport photos of Albrecht . SARACCA then decides as to which category Albrecht is to be registered and forward such to SAQCC- Gas for registration and the issue of the card to be carried by Albrecht .
The required information for registration by SAQCC-Gas is straight forward : name , ID number , contact details , employer , schooling and education . “ Record of all

training and assessment of every learner done by Techniskills in filed and kept for the required period as such may be needed in the event of an incident or injury involving the learner ,” says Hobbs .
At Techniskills , Hobbs and Simpson are assisted by Lizette Fox as PA and Eugene Snyman , an experienced trainer in ammonia refrigeration systems who does mostly onsite training for clients . For the past three years , Patricia has assisted with the filing of the many records .
Being a small operation , Techniskills has survived during the Covid 19 pandemic and has managed to pull through . Student numbers are back to normal and so is the needed after hours training done mostly on Saturday mornings .
Without the Techniskills College , training in refrigeration and air conditioning in Cape Town would be virtually non-existent .
