EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN Puregas appreciates partners By Ntsako Khosa T In order to extend a hand of appreciation to customers they work with, Puregas held their annual partnership awards at the Johannesburg Country Club in Woodmead last year. he venue was filled with various Puregas clientele that enjoyed a cheese buffet before things began. The master of ceremonies was comedian, Al Prodgers, who kept tickling guests’ funny bones with quirky punch lines. Managing director, Philip Cloete welcomed guests, sharing that this is an annual event that they look forward to. Keynote speaker was futurist, Pieter Geldenhuys. His presentation was on ‘the tour of the future’, sharing some trends that can be expected to shape the way we live. According to him, although the population of some regions in the world are seeing a decrease in age groups 20 – 45, Africa is expected to grow in population. This provides a lot of opportunity for business as the world moves to be more digital. He predicts that the ubiquitous personal assistant (UBA) will be the ‘next big thing’ and not a gadget as we have seen in the past. Amazon Alexa is the current UBA gaining traction in America and was recently introduced locally. Alexa is a Philip Cloete, MD of Puregas. BNG Packaging and Technology won category C. smart speaker that takes on the role of an assistant for anything you require. You can ask Alexa to switch off the lights, play some music or even start your car. Geldenhuys’ presentation kept guests engaged with some commenting on how insightful they found it. Tiger Brands won category A. Dinner was served, with waiters providing rotating platters. After Geldenhuys came the awards ceremony. Jaco Wiese, general manager, sales and operations, handed out the awards with help from colleagues, Gugulethu Mkhathini and Cloete. Broken down into three categories, the main aim of the awards focused on plant safety and a rating was given according to those statistics, explained Wiese. Categories ranged from cylinders, bulk customers with a small to medium firms and bulk customers with a large firm. CLA And the winners are… Futurist, Pieter Geldenhuys is enthusiastic about what the future holds. Cylinders category: The runner up was Acorn Group of companies, and BNG Packaging and Technology was crowned the winner. Bulk customers, small to medium firm: First runner-up went to Clarke Colours and Vitafoam was second. Winner in the category was Cibapac. Bulk customers, large firm: SC Johnson was named second runner ups; Unilever was first and Tiger Brands was overall winner of the category. Jaco Wiese from Puregas.
