EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN By Ilana Koegelenberg 3 Last chance to get to the show — more ‘suits’ arriving for Day 3. Later, the music got everyone off their feet and finally, the ties came off. The South Africans owned that dance floor and I was pleasantly surprised at some of the dance moves. It was a great evening and I enjoyed chatting to the guys. The hard part is always getting home though and this time it proved even harder than usual with the underground line only running to the main station due to maintenance. It was very late by the time I finally found a train willing to take me home. Two more days to go … A BUSY DAY 2 Costas Balaras, ASHRAE director for the European region, leading the regional meeting during the show. At breakfast, I met Pravita Iyer of the India Cooling publication, who told me more about her industry back home in exchange for views on the South African market. We headed to the exhibition together this day and it was good to have company on the train. Döbelin from OTTC, without whom I cannot imagine Chillventa. More and more familiar faces gathered: Alex Kuzma of Woolworths, Richard Drinkrow of Mainstream Refrigeration, the memorable duo of ProActive (Terry Isaacs and Gary Dawson) … Torsten Steinborn, Bitzer SA’s operations manager, seemed uncertain as to how to lead all these people to the bus. But it was a walk I had done so many times before and I offered to take the lead through the halls out the east entrance to where a guy in an alligator suit ushered us into the bus. In the end, apparently there were 29 South Africans at the Bitzer event. Team Bitzer pulled out all the stops this time and it was a memorable experience. From the entrance bracelets that lit up and later dramatically changed colour on cue, to the pleasant local beer and impressive buffet. Live music, dancing acts, and so much more, it was next level as far as supplier events go. The Chillventa Congress took place on 15 October 2018 and was well attended. At the press trade lunch with Rudy Gunst of FCO Media in Belgium, whom I met at MCE 2018 in Italy. The halls were packed with things to see and do.
