EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS
INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN

Last chance to get to the show — more ‘suits’ arriving for Day 3.
Later, the music got everyone off their
feet and finally, the ties came off. The
South Africans owned that dance floor
and I was pleasantly surprised at some
of the dance moves. It was a great
evening and I enjoyed chatting to
the guys.
The hard part is always getting home
though and this time it proved even harder
than usual with the underground line
only running to the main station due to
maintenance. It was very late by the time
I finally found a train willing to take me
home.
Two more days to go …
A BUSY DAY 2
Costas Balaras, ASHRAE director for the European region, leading the regional meeting during
the show.
At breakfast, I met Pravita Iyer of the
India Cooling publication, who told me
more about her industry back home
in exchange for views on the South
African market. We headed to the
exhibition together this day and it was
good to have company on the train.
Döbelin from OTTC, without whom I cannot
imagine Chillventa.
More and more familiar faces gathered:
Alex Kuzma of Woolworths, Richard
Drinkrow of Mainstream Refrigeration, the
memorable duo of ProActive (Terry Isaacs
and Gary Dawson) …
Torsten Steinborn, Bitzer SA’s operations
manager, seemed uncertain as to how to
lead all these people to the bus. But it was
a walk I had done so many times before
and I offered to take the lead through the
halls out the east entrance to where a guy
in an alligator suit ushered us into the bus.
In the end, apparently there were 29
South Africans at the Bitzer event. Team
Bitzer pulled out all the stops this time and
it was a memorable experience. From the
entrance bracelets that lit up and later
dramatically changed colour on cue, to
the pleasant local beer and impressive
buffet. Live music, dancing acts, and so
much more, it was next level as far as
supplier events go.
The Chillventa Congress took place on 15 October 2018 and was well attended.
At the press trade lunch with Rudy Gunst of FCO Media
in Belgium, whom I met at MCE 2018 in Italy.
The halls were packed with things to see and do.
