EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN Upcoming TOC to discuss modernising supply chains As cargo supply chains across the Americas continue to modernise, what are the challenges and opportunities this creates? This will be a key focus at this year’s TOC Americas conference and exhibition, taking place in Panama from 13 to 15 November. After the ultimate low of 2017’s Hanjin collapse, ocean carriers are coming out of some very lean years. The region’s leading shipping lines will be represented at TOC Americas, with Lars Oestergaard Nielsen, president: Latin America and Caribbean at Maersk Line, and Howard Finkel, EVP at COSCO Container Lines, both confirmed to speak. TOC Americas attracts ports and terminals from across the Americas This year’s TOC Americas will focus on the modernising of supply chains and the pros and cons of this. as both delegates and speakers, with APM Terminals, TC Mariel, PSA, Terminal Portuario de Manta, and Hutchison Ports all confirmed, and with several US port operators soon to be announced. Analysts and consultants will be represented by companies including Development Bank of Latin America, Hofstra University, S&P Global, Drewry, BSI Group, and the United Nations – Economic Commission for Latin America & the Caribbean. TOC AMERICAS FORMAT The event will feature a two-track conference programme: Container Supply Chain (which includes a session on cold chain) and Tech TOC – Terminal Operations (which includes a session on bulk). There will also be a technical tour organised and a comprehensive networking programme for delegates to look forward to. The TOC Americas Conference App: Participants at the conference will benefit from a bespoke conference app that allows attendees to put questions directly to panels (anonymously if preferred), as well as create bespoke agendas and meeting lists of exhibitors. The TOC Americas port technology exhibition will feature suppliers from across the globe, including Camco Technologies, Phoenix Terminal Solutions, Terberg Tractors Americas, ABB, Liebherr, and Prysmian. CLA Correction: the real winning project O n page 36 of Cold Link Africa’s June edition, in the article “WorldSkills — what is it all about”, we incorrectly labelled a picture as 2015 national winner Marko Combrinck’s project. This was in fact a picture from one of the other competitors who didn’t complete their project successfully. We apologise for the error. Here is the actual photo of Combrinck’s completed project … CLA GLOBAL REPRESENTATION A gainst the backdrop of the uncompromising US trade agenda and the industry’s embrace of the newly expanded Panama Canal, the TOC Americas event will return to Panama for a series of global and regional discussions and debates. Since TOC was last in Panama — just prior to the official inauguration — the new Canal locks are now open for business, facilitating record transits and making this the ideal time for TOC Americas to return to Panama. As Jorge L Quijano, CEO of the Panama Canal Authority, predicted in his keynote address in 2015, the expansion of the Panama Canal has radically altered how goods are moved, not only in the region but across the world. “Less than one year in, and the impact of the expanded Canal is already evident across the world,” says Quijano speaking earlier this year. He continues, “As liners continue to reroute services and consolidate cargo on larger vessels, we look forward to welcoming the increase of Neopanamax traffic with the same safe, reliable service our customers have come to expect.” Quijano has just been confirmed to return to TOC Americas and deliver the keynote address at this year’s TOC Americas and will officially welcome the audience back to Panama for the first time in three years. Talking points in the Container Supply Chain Conference at TOC Americas will include: • Economic and trade outlook for the Americas • New alliance structure and impact on the industry • Updates on blockchain and related technologies • Digitalisation: developing a digital infrastructure • Challenges for the chilled logistics trade • Investment and infrastructure.
