EVENTS AND EXHIBITIONS INCORPORATING COLD CHAIN OTTC stammtisch brings artisans together By Ilana Koegelenberg On 30 August, the Open Trade Training Centre (OTTC) in Springs held its fourth stammtisch event, providing a space for students old and new to connect and informally network around a braai. There were no formalities during the event, just a relaxed atmosphere and good meat on the open fire and some signature fruit ice lollies created from their fully functional CO 2 cascade system. A mix of trainers and students enjoyed the event together. The second batch of OTTC’s Try-A-Trade initiative were put to work manning the braai and it was exciting to see such young talent being introduced to the industry (when not tending to the meat). OTTC hopes to host more of these events in future to promote skills development and encourage artisans in the HVAC&R industry. The first event took place in November last year, with a follow- up in March for the new students. A stammtisch (German for ‘regulars table’) is an informal group meeting held on a regular basis and also the usually large, often round table around which the group meets. A stammtisch is not a structured meeting, but rather a friendly get-together. That is where Döbelin got the idea of hosting an artisan’s round- table event, where artisans from all fields can come together and exchange experiences and advice. Manning the braai – the new batch of Try-A-Trade artisans have arrived at the training centre. The OTTC ice lollies were a hit and the fruit juice was frozen quickly thanks to OTTC’s fully functional CO 2 cascade system. COLD LINK AFRICA • October 2018 www.coldlinkafrica.co.za 17
