by others while fighting to find themselves within the written word. Trust me, how you start off writing is not how you will become known. You’ ll grow and develop. Why not do that on a blog before you finalize your first book?
I’ ve seen writers develop their humor, their use of new and unusual words, the show not tell mantra, and even how to be concise. Let your blog be your playground.
Share Your Writing Experience
As you get your name and face out there, share your writing experience. Talk to people about the struggles with a scene, character development, or ask a question from those that have more experience. I have had people who bought my book because they were intrigued with posts I made about characters and scenes I was working on. You are marketing your book just by talking about what you are working on.
Be Yourself
When you are starting out to market your work, be yourself. Just talk about life, your work, and such. You don’ t have to talk about your book at all times. Let the readers get to know more about you. By doing so, you pull them in and have them wanting to know more about your work. They’ ll buy your book because they have sort of been on the journey with you and have experienced what you have. Ask questions. Make observations. Share a joke or a crazy moment. Have fun. Be Yourself.
Marketing starts before you publish. It is a matter of just socializing and sharing your experiences. By doing so, you already have people who are familiar with you and your work. That is one of the biggest hurdles every author has. Why not start earlier and ease the stress of marketing?
