The 100 year anniversary of the brave
and tragic battle of Gallipoli has struck
a chord within all Australians.
For those that missed out in the
ballot, there are plenty of other ways
to commemorate this auspicious
anniversary. There are several cruise
ships that will cruise the Greek Islands,
and then anchor off Gallipoli, to
conduct their own ceremonies on
board. You will also get the opportunity
to explore the site, just before, or just
after Anzac day. This is a great way
to remember our fallen, without the
logistical issues of being part of the
Dawn Service on 25th April.
Gallipoli is a haunting and atmospheric
place of remembrance for both Aussies
and Turks, all year round, and there are
tours that take you there from Istanbul
on pretty much any day of the year.
We are finding that many travellers are
planning to visit later in the year, so that
their moment of reflection becomes a
personal, and private one.
Gallipoli is of course the focal point
for Anzac Day, however, many
travellers choose to pay their respects
in Vietnam. Trevor, at Travel Direct,
personally escorts a tour each year to
Vietnam for Anzac Day, which explores
the southern region of Vietnam, and
takes in the Dawn Service at Long Tan,
known to many Australian veterans.
For more information on next year’s
special trip, please contact Helen or
Trevor at our Marine Parade office,
or on 02 6674 2577.
