EdLife Living Learning Community
Implements New International
Educators Cohort
Responding to the Kentucky Department of Education’s
call for increased global competency for Kentucky’s K-12
students, as well as a desire among
many UK education majors to
increase their exposure to diverse
situations and worldviews, the
UK College of Education recently
developed a program within
the EdLife Living Learning
Community to support future
educators in increasing their own
global competency. Students in
the program, deemed the “EdLife International Educators
Cohort,” gain knowledge relating to global competency by
earning the Undergraduate Global Studies Certificate. They
also gain practical insight into the field of teaching abroad at
international schools or within diverse settings in the United
States through one-on-one advising, as well as guest speakers
and international visitors with experience in the field. Both
the practical and content-based knowledge are combined
and synthesized through EdLife-connected courses like UK
101 and EDU 300 with a specific focus on international
education. Upon graduating, students in the cohort will be
able to articulate and demonstrate their global competency,
having participated in a credit-bearing experience abroad
as well as cultural activities on UK’s campus. This skill
makes them highly desirable as educators who will prepare
Kentucky’s 21st century learners for an increasingly
interconnected world.

Educators Cohort, visit bit.ly/EdLifeCohort or contact
