‘The Book Box’ merges reading, nutrition
Students in Dr. Elizabeth Fettrow’s KHP 380: Health Education in the Elementary
School implemented a course assignment titled “The Book Box” with students in
kindergarten through second grade. The project involved selecting children’s literature
with nutrition-related themes to read to the students, then designing a learning activity
to supplement the reading. Pictured are the KHP 380 students with second grade
students at Seton Catholic School. As part of their book selection, “Oliver’s Fruit
Salad,” the KHP 380 students helped the second grade students construct “apple hats.”
