Torry take a point
CD Torrevieja tied with
a goal apiece on the road
at
Elche
Ilicitano
Torrevieja came close to
taking all three points but
just couldn't find the back
of the net. On paper and
looking at their form up
until now, 14th placed Torry
should never have been
able to compete with 3rd
placed Elche, who started
the season as one of the
favourites for promotion
and have huge strength in
depth within the club.
However, much as nobody
expected Newcastle United
to score six goals on
Sunday, Torry seem to be
picking up the pieces and
clearly outplayed a more qualified
opponent in their own stadium and in all
facets of the game with the exception, of
course, of the number of goals.
Importantly, this was the only aspect that
Torry missed to round off a splendid
afternoon of football for Torry. And that
was even though they started with a
disadvantage with, as has been the norm
this season, by letting in an early goal it
inspired the team since they had to play
against this rapid disadvantage from the
start.
But after their early goal in the tenth
minute when Nuha headed home from a
corner kick, that was almost all that Elche
would bring to their attacking game,
because they would not have a
significant shot on target during the
game. Meanwhile, the tactics of Pedroza,
with three defenders was very effective
as they continued working without being
overcome by anxiety and gradually
managed to impose superiority in the
midfield. The first chance came when
Carrasco sent Brani away but he volleyed
over. Six minutes later, Caesar had the
chance to equalise but couldn't beat the
goalkeeper.
Torry equalised in the 24th minute
when César took the ball after a long
clearance from Matej that went past Fran,
and while the goalkeeper showed
indecision in not leaving his area, he
adjusted with his low shot going in off
the left post. Torrevieja then had a host of
opportunities with the best being
another great individual move from
Brani, who picked the ball up on the right
wing, left several defenders in his wake
and forced a great save from the
goalkeeper. On 33 minutes, the referee
needed to be attended by the two
physiotherapists, because of a strong
blow from a ball in the chest.
The flood did not stop in the second
half. A corner from Juanma went through
to Carrasco at the back post who passed
to the unmarked Quintero who moved
forward with the ball but ran out of angle
to sneak a shot as the goal
was well covered by the
goalkeeper.
Another
corner from Sanchez went
just wide from Caesar.
Juanma centred from sideline and his cross was
dangerously deflected by
Fran, and the ball went just
wide of the far post with no
attacker there to touch it
into the net. Of the five
games played so far by the
Elche Ilicitano in their
stadium, this is the first that
they didn't win. The Torry
team was well aware of the
opportunities missed but
the game offered up an
excellent impression of the
newer look to the team
which will also be boosted by the team's
recent signings.

COSTA COBRAS RFC KEEP
PUSHING FORWARD
Four torrevejenses participate
The Costa Cobras RFC
are still pushing forward
looking for a permanent
ground so that we have a
proper base to work from
and to hold our 7’s
tournament at the end of
June. If anybody can help
us with this it would be
great, this way we can hold
mini tournaments for the
touring teams that are
coming over next year.
We have also been twinned with
Brightlingsea Rugby Club and Bsea Youth
Rugby from the UK after their coach
came over to see the team training and
helped out with the coaching, which was
great for the players.
We looked at a ground to use, but
unfortunately there was no time for the
juniors to train only the seniors, which
was disappointing as it was perfectly
situated for us.
We are looking at getting more juniors
and seniors coming along this week with
all of the contacts been made to the club,
fingers crossed it all happens.
Also on Friday 19 November with the
help of Victorias Tearooms in Almoradi to
raise money for, DEBRA, the Butterfly
Children the club are auctioning off
rugby memorabilia international and
club shirts as well as other items that
have been donated. For more details you
can connect the tearooms or myself. We
also have Dennis Christian been the
auctioneer for the event,
so looking at plenty of
people coming down to
support this event.
So come a long and
join this new club from
the start and be part of
something new in the
area.
We are looking to be
able to put a team in at all
levels in the league this
time next year so come along and join
the newest rugby team on the Costa
Blanca and join the rugby revolution.
All ages, gender and nationalities are
welcome, from beginners to experienced
players, the more the merrier, as we are
based on the true traditional ethics of the
sport. So come along and join the newest
rugby club on the Costa Blanca. Also
team bonding after training in the
nearest bar for a drink and chat, just how
rugby should be. Training still takes place
on Monday and Wednesday from 18.0019.30 for the juniors and 20.00-21.30 for
the seniors in Daya Vieja at the sports
ground.
For more information about the club
contact myself, Dutch, on 692 767 242.
Also I am back down at Zoco market on
Sunday again from 09.00-13.30, so co
