For timber windows, Coastal can offer either wind-up or pre-tensioned spiral balances. We use only rectangular spring wire across our whole range offeri ng springs with the smoothest operation possible. Our pre-tensioned spiral balances incorporate self-contained double spring technology to maintain equilibrium within the frame, whether the window is wide-open or ajar. We calibrate every single balance to precisely match the window weight, size and style; and to ensure the window operation is the smoothest and lightest available. Combined with our seal technology they provide an excellent weatherseal and heat insulation, ensuring that draughts and water ingress are a thing of the past. As part of our Supertilt range we offer a conversion kit for timber sash windows that enables sashes to tilt inwards for ease of cleaning. Supertilt provides a well engineered solution available in four different kit sizes for different sash heights. ‘D’ balances These are light duty, economic, general purpose balances for domestic or commercial applications. They are manufactured in 3 weight groups suitable for sashes having glazed weights of up to 18.15kgs (40lbs) and servery hatches up to 6.8kgs (15lbs). ‘D’ type balances are adjustable within their weight range to suit actual glazed sash weights. A special adjustment tool is available. Where maximum assisted lift is required it is advisable to use ‘F’ type balances when sash weights exceed 17kgs (37.5lbs). Screwdriver/ allen key adjustment available on request. They are particularly recommended for retirement homes, hospitals or nursing homes as the dual action of the torsion and tension springs work to give an assisted lift thus making the operation easier even with heavier installations.
