All American Recruit Checklist
Knowing that division 1 coaches cannot communicate with
student-athletes until June 15th after their sophomore year,
then how can I obtain knowledge before then?
Social Media: Most college programs have an Instagram,
Twitter, & Facebook, etc.
Campus & Athletic Website: This can give you academic
information & campus living information
Campus Tour: You can still go to that campus and take a
tour (online virtual tours are on the university websites too)
These are all questions that you can use in order to help
prepare you college checklist.
Volleyball Clinics/Camps: Attending a camp or clinic
can give you knowledge of the coaching staff, and can
help you view the campus.
Put yourself in the Coach’s mind: As a recruit, how would
you define yourself? What are your most important attributes,
and why do you add value to that volleyball program?
Do you…
Have the best arm in the gym, and you are an offensive
machine?
Pass the ball better than everyone else?
Set an offense & locate the ball better than every other setter?
Have a volleyball IQ that is unmatched by others?
Compete as hard as you can in every practice, set, & match?
Have physicality & size that are unmatched by everyone
else?
If your answer is “100% YES,” then you are already being
recruited, and you can go to any school that you choose. For
the other 98% of student-athletes, it is your job to help recruit
yourself to where you want to go.
As a recruit, how do you personally add value to the
program’s team culture?
Do your core values include…
Family
Work Ethic
Integrity
Grit
Being All-In to the process of growth and not just
worried about the outcome
What information can I constantly send to college coaches
that will be useful to them?
Grade updates & transcript
SAT/ACT scores
Send video of a full set or match: This is better than a
highlight reel, because a highlight reel shows you at your
absolute best. Do you play every match like your
highlight reel? If so, then you will be able to go
anywhere you want in college. For the majority, college
coaches want to see how you compete through an entire
match, how you move with the ball & even when you are
not a part of the play. They want to see how you react &
respond when you make an error. This also shows how
you are as a teammate and how do you compete through
adversity.
What is your height, standing touch, and vertical touch?
Love & Respect
What is your club coach contact & high school
Being a top 10%er in all areas of your life (someone who
is totally committed to constantly working, growing,
learning, and evolving in all areas of their life)
Finally, why do you want to be a part of that university
and volleyball program?
