LETTER FROM THE EDITOR
FRANK STEPHENS III
This third issue of C+P has not come
without its fair share of frustrations and
lessons learned. If I could sum up the
struggles, we’ve faced with one convent
analogy I’d have to call it, The Struggle
to Stay in the Light.
A pathway to success seems far too
simple on paper. You have your steps
and contingencies all planned out. You
reassure yourself that you’ve thought of
everything; what could possibly wrong?
I can answer this query with my favorite
4-letter word…LIFE!
Now before I go off on too far of a
tangent, let me explain how this relates
to the stories you’re about to read. I
always try to find a common spirit of
inspiration in every magazine that
we publish. Sometimes it takes a little
intellectual gymnastics to pull that off,
but this time, it was made a lot easier
thanks to the stumbles I alluded to
earlier. We’ve had some dark days
since you’ve heard from us last, and
it’s taken a lot of soul-searching to
keep us inspired and focused on our
goals. Thankfully for me, much of the
inspiration came from the stories I now
have the privilege of presenting to you.
Our cover feature, Robby Anderson
had every reason to believe he had
played his last football game when he
was dismissed from Temple University.
Southern California high school legend
Schea Cotton had more than ample
reasons to give into the feelings of
worthlessness that plague anyone who
feels they may have maxed out in life as
a teenager. But both of these men had
one thing going for them when all was
closing in on them, a choice.
We haven’t lost when we fall into the
darkness. We’ve lost when we chose not
to scrape and claw our way back to the
light. Both Robby Anderson and Schea
Cotton understood this and, their
words and deeds have a lot to do with
me finding the sticktoitiveness needed
to live up to my obligations to you the
reader.
But let’s hold on for a moment. It’s a very
rare person who can pick themselves
up and find their way back on their
own. Can any of us say that we are truly
self-made?

There are no accomplishments on my
resume that came without the guidance
and support of people that I was blessed
to have entered my life at particularly
critical times.
So, let this Fall 2016 issue be a celebration
of The Light; a celebration of all who
strive to find it, and a celebration of all
those who care enough to act as a guide
when the path we seek is beyond our
own understanding. LEGAL DISCLAIMER
