SERVICE-LEARNING PROGRAM
WITH OUTREACH360:
Our weeklong service-learning
trip to Monte Cristi, Dominican
Republic or Jinotega, Nicaragua is
a partnership with Outreach360,
a non-profit organization that
facilitates service-learning trips
for American high school
groups.
SCHOOL YEAR ABROAD (SYA): Norfolk Academy is an associate member of School Year Abroad,
which offers students the opportunity to spend their junior year abroad, living with a European or
Chinese host family while pursuing a course of study that aligns with Norfolk Academy’s rigor and
expectations.
ARABIC YEAR AT KING’S ACADEMY: This program offers a chance to study for a year at King’s
Academy, an American-style boarding school in Jordan.

HONOR COUNCIL: The Honor System, considered the school’s most important institution and its
most cherished tradition, shapes the Norfolk Academy learning community from first grade to the
senior year. The chair of the Honor Council and the six student representatives are chosen through a
school election each year as leaders in strengthening the Honor System by suggesting improvements,
providing peer-to-peer education, and adjudicating cases.
TUNSTALL STUDENT COUNCIL: The elected student leaders organize activities that promote
goodwill and community spirit in the Upper School, including dances and light-hearted competitive
sports events; proceeds are donated to charity. The council also holds student forums to hear ideas and
concerns from the student body.
COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD: Community Service Board members run the service learning
program for the Upper School. The members identify local agencies that bring about positive change
in our community and work to schedule volunteer opportunities, fundraising events, and special
projects, such as food drives.
