A New Year ' s chance to persist in crafting experiences that transform and uplift
Managing editor, Paul Colston
A s we move into a New Year, it is an
opportunity to take stock of past achievements and look forward to future successes.
On p50 we celebrate Prague’ s scientific heritage and Nobel legacy and remind ourselves of the kind of societal breakthroughs that can come from meetings and conferences for the benefit of mankind.
Another destination with a proud life sciences heritage and history of environmental thought leadership is Denmark, and, in this issue, we take a Copenhagen Tour de Life Science – a walkthrough from government strategy to collaboration projects, while highlighting how the Danish Board of Business Development is funding the‘ Valuable Meetings’ project in the country.
Wellness has been a dominant theme in 2025, with the industry learning to take better care of itself. Here again, we take a business events breather – courtesy of Caesars Entertainment – with Sepideh Eivazi, a somatic breathwork specialist, who says wellness is not just a trend, but the infrastructure of the future.
One LATAM powerhouse of the future is Brazil, and Stephanie Ackland uncovers a fast-developing‘ second city’ for conferencing, Campinas.
Our association partners again cover the usual big topics of AI trends, DEI, and I don’ t think I’ ve read a better summary of where we stand as we head into 2026 than from SITE’ s head of consultancy and research, Pádraic. Gilligan:“ As an industry, we’ re at a curious intersection – operating, it seems, with a myriad browser tabs open: geopolitics in one corner, climate alarms in another, culture wars flashing notifications, AI re-writing the operating system, cost-ofliving pressures draining our mental battery. And yet we persist, determined to craft experiences that transform, uplift and re-ignite the best in our people.” He also notes,“ Volatility is the new normal” – and continuing terrorist acts remind us of this with sickening regularity – yet, paradoxically, the demand for incentive travel and conferencing remains robust, rising, and increasingly valued.
Let us enter the New Year with optimism, sound strategies, and fresh hopes, while remaining vigilant and safe in our actions. n
