CURRICULUM VITAE 1 Use a curriculum vitae (CV) when applying for grants and fellowships, academic, educational, scientific, medical, or research positions. This is a lifelong document, so add to it frequently. It can be multiple pages in length. 2 Some of the differences between a CV and a resume are that CVs are more commonly asked for outside of the United States. CVs are typically longer and focus more on research, publications, and academic achievements. Avoid including your GPA. Any detailed information about your tasks and responsibilities are usually included in paragraph format. Some of the similarities between a CV and a resume are that they both use appropriate font size and type with an easy-to-scan format. Most recent experiences are listed first within the headings. Use action words and key words that will stand out to the employer, institution, or organization. 3 Include your dissertation, thesis, class projects, and papers. CHIP A.
