Sarah “Mindy” Rogers,
Resident of the Month
Mindy was born May 17, 1986, to Jana Kimble and
Kelly Young. Mindy has eight siblings, Tashina, Victoria,
Alexandria, Jordan, Jessica, Ethan, Cassidy, and Shane
who passed away earlier this year. Mindy graduated from
Nixa High School. She spent several years working for
various fast food chains and then went to work for
Northstar Battery making batteries for the company.
Mindy always dreamed about having a little girl, but
her doctors told her she would never be able to have any
children. A little over four years ago on Father’s Day, she
was in the hospital for sickness. While she was there, the
nurse drew her labs and when the results came back, she
was expecting them to place her in ICU due to the way
she was feeling, but the nurse informed her that she
wasn’t sick but was in fact 12 weeks pregnant. That was
quite a shock to Mindy since the doctors told her that she would never be able to have
children. When she was 21 weeks pregnant, she was hospitalized so they could maintain her
blood sugar so she would be able to carry full term. At 31 weeks and 6 days they had to in-
duce her. “I was in labor for 28 hours, the longest hours of my life,” said Mindy. While she
was pushing, her retinas detached from both eyes. The eye surgeon was able to repair her left
eye, but they were not able to repair her right eye and she lost her vision and that eye perma-
nently. Then she had to have a C-Section. After this traumatic birth, Mindy said she had the
perfect little girl and she couldn’t ask for more. Her daughter Shaylynn is soon to be four
years old. Mindy loves visiting Shaylynn every Sunday. The two spend the day jumping on
the trampoline, having Tea Parties, eating lots of popsicles, playing in the pool, and some-
times riding 4 wheelers.
One of Mindy’s favorite memories was with her brother, Jordan, whom she affectionate-
ly calls “Bubby.” Jordan and Mindy poured soap all over their trampoline to make a slip and
slide. She said it was so slick, but they enjoyed every minute of it! Also, one hot summer
afternoon Jordan and Mindy were trying to find a way to cool off but didn’t have a pool or
the money for a pool. The two put their heads together while sitting on the deck and devised
the perfect plan. They took a garden hose spray wand, tied it to the tree, and sat under it
wearing goggles to get cooled off. They also shared special memories of water balloon fights
that concluded in filling up buckets of water and throwing them on each other.
Mindy joined us at CMHCF in Sept. 2017. She likes the residents and the staff the best
at CMHCF because she enjoys hearing all of the resident’s stories and about all of the things
they have done throughout life. “I also appreciates all of the staff because they are so com-
passionate and act like they really care. The nursing staff is also really great, and care so
much for the residents, and tries to get them what they need as fast as they possibly can,”
said Mindy.
