Frances Davis, Resident of the Month Frances Davis was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Everton, Mo., to Harry and Opha Hoover. Frances is the youngest of three children. They grew up on a farm with chickens, horses, and pigs. “My brother, sister and I used to find tools around our farm and make things out of them,” she said. Frances and her sister even helped their brother make a go-kart out of the tools they found around the farm. Frances said, “It was pretty neat because we could even drive it when it was all put together.” She remembers liking spelling in school, it was her favorite subject. She attended Hampton grade school, and after school she started working at Elsie’s Grocery Store and Tavern. Her first car was a black, Chev- rolet four door. Frances remembers her brother trying to teach her how to drive, when a rabbit ran across the road in front of her. She didn’t want to slam on the brakes, so she accidentally hit the rabbit. Her brother was so mad at her, so he made her pull over and he took over driving. Frances met Guy Davis while working at Elsie’s Grocery Store and Tavern and they married when she turned 18. The couple had 61 wonderful years together, and had two sons, Dennis and Randy. Randy sadly passed away when he was 27, but all together she said, “I have had a good life.” She has 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Frances said, “I tell my granddaughters that 18 is just too young to get married. Find your love for life, then settle down, get married, and then you can raise a family. Guy was in the services and they moved to Mt. Rose, Montana for a while. Guy worked on the base there, but when he went overseas, Frances and the kids moved back to Everton. She enjoyed taking care of her boys. They played some baseball, which kept her busy, and she did a lot of crocheting. The family had two pets, a collie dog named “Collie” and a little dog named “Cutie.” Frances loved those pups. She loved making fried potatoes and beans, at everyone’s request, and her famous dump cake was always a hit. The family liked to go down to Silver Dollar City when they had the chance, but never got to go to the Dixie Stampede. Her favorite color is blue, favorite food is dessert of all kinds, and she enjoys getting to go on van rides with her roommate. She also likes getting her nails done, attending bingo, and visiting with all the new friends she’s met during her stay here. Frances has been a part of the CMHCF family since April 2017. Congratulations Frances, on becoming the CMHCF resident of the month for your birth- day month, September.
