Martha Scott, Resident of the Month Martha was born Oct. 14, 1939, to Linley and Bessy Neel in Lunenburg, Ark., and is the oldest of five children. She has one sis- ter, Nadine, and three brothers, Robert, Mi- chael, and Leon. Martha always enjoyed reading and liked going to school. She was in the literary club during school and has continued a life of reading ever since. Her mother raised Pom- eranian dogs so she always had pups to play with, and she lived on a farm and had lots to do. Her first car was a maroon convertible Hudson that her uncle gave her; it was a good car. After graduating high school she traveled to Seattle, Wash., and met Ellis Mayfield who was in the Army at the time. They fell in love and six months later they were married, and later divorced in 1987. Martha met Bob Scott and married him on July 1, 1997. Martha has three children, Sandra, Terry, and Renee. When her younger daughter was about 2 years old, they moved just outside of New Orleans. She laughs as she remem- bers while they lived in New Orleans, it was nothing for her younger daughter, Sandra, to come in from playing in the yard with a baby alligator stuffed in her pocket. She said it took her a long time to get used to find- ing them in the laundry baskets or floating in the washing machine. “It was nothing to have alligators crawling around in the yard, kind of like having pet dogs in the yard,” says Martha. She owned and ran two different restaurants, one in New Orleans, and “Martha’s Restaurant” in Fair Grove, Mo. Her daughter, Sandra, worked with her in the restaurant in Fair Grove. She always made all her pies and breads from scratch. Her cream pies were everyone’s favorite. Martha has been a part of the Citizens Memorial Healthcare Facility Family since April 2016. She loved fishing and camping with her husband, enjoys getting to know new people, and really gets along with her room- mate. Congratulations, Martha, on being chosen as Resident of the Month.
