John Lawson, Resident of the Month John was born to Paul and Maxie Lawson in August 1937, at the Old Baptist Hospital in Springfield, Mo. John has one sister, Becky Mabary. He attended school at Dolin and Hillcrest in Springfield, Mo. He received his G.E.D. and went on to get a degree in Sales. Looking back on his childhood, he says his fondest memories involve his time spent with The Miller Brothers Circus, which was a family circus, owned and operated by his grandparents. He always enjoyed being John Lawson a part of all the behind the scene activity. John was looking forward to eventually performing along side several other family members on the trapeze. Just before John made his debut as a trapeze artist, the family circus was sold to the Barnum & Bailey Circus. John will often reminisce and tell stories about the times his family would perform and different venues in Springfield including the old drive-in theater and the Shrine Mosque. John spent many years working with his father in construction and painting. Eventually, he became a Meat Market Salesman and traveled all around the St. Louis area. John’s favorite vehicle was a 1957 red and white Ford. He loves to sit down and enjoy a good hamburger and his favorite dog his Doberman, Tootsie. John likes to spend his time crafting, crocheting and working with his hands. He enjoys doing Indian bead and leather work. Some of John’s favorite activities here at CMHCF. are Bible study, music, and the men’s lunches. Congratulations to John Lawson on being CMHCF’s Resident of the Month!
