Eva Voris, Resident of the Month Eva was born July 3, 1922, to Jess and Grace Payne. Eva has one brother and three sisters. Her brother passed away shortly after birth and two of her sisters passed away in their nineties, and one sister is still living. Eva has always been very close to her sisters and they have shared many wonderful times together. They attended first through eighth grade at a rural school in Polk County called Star Ridge, and high school in Louisburg, MO. Eva taught school for thirty years in Missouri. Several years she taught elementary education and the other years she taught high school math. She was an educator in Buf- falo, Cameron, and Jefferson City schools. Eva married her husband Paul on September 12, 1943. To this union was born one son, Russel, who graduated from the Air Force Academy and was later killed in Vietnam, another son, Paul, and her daughter, Judy. “Growing up my family lived seven miles from Louisburg High School, said Eva.” “When my sister Ava and I were ages 11 and 12, we drove a horse and buggy to get to school every day until Christmas when it became too cold. We brought small bales of hay and water from home and would go out- side at lunch time to feed our horse. After Christmas and throughout the cold winter, we stayed in a room in an elderly couple’s home that had only an out- house so we could get to school.” Eva came to live with us in the fall of 2014. Eva enjoys the kindness the staff shows towards her, the good meals, and visiting with all of her friends.
