Carol Dunaway,
Resident of the Month
Carol was born June 19, 1942, to Jim and
Virginia Luty in Chetopa, Kan. As the eldest of
seven children, laughs when she talks about how,
while caring for her siblings, she would lock her
brothers in the wood shed when they didn’t do
what they were told. She would only let them out
when they would promise to behave.
When she was three or four, she received a
baby doll that would cry. She always considered
that her favorite birthday gift. “I was a bit of a
tomboy and loved to play baseball in school,”
Carol Dunaway
Carol said with a smile. “I would always play
second base.” Growing up in Auburn, Kansas., a small town located about 18
miles from Topeka, she recalls numerous occasions where she would go to
Topeka to roller skate. She loved that it served A & W root beer.
At 18, Carol met her husband, Carlin. They were blessed with two beautiful daughters: Marie and Judy. Sadly, the couple divorced. Eventually, Carol
met Dwaine Dunaway. Dwaine and Carol were blessed with two beautiful
children: Dwaine Jr. and Sherry Ann.
Throughout her life, Carol has had many great memories. Her fondest
memory came from when her children were young. “ I loved when we would
get together as a family and have Thanksgiving dinner,” Carol said proudly. “
I could cook a mean holiday turkey!”
In December 2012, Carol became a member of the CMHCF family. She is
very active and enjoys playing Bingo, participating in the horse races, and
getting to meet new friends. According to Carol, the best thing about CMHCF
so far was when we ordered pizza from Domino’s and she ate two pieces of
pepperoni pizza.
